‘The presence of a doctor is the beginning of CURE!!’
This quote is highly relevant for a country with humongous population of ~1.4 billion people!
Yes, Its INDIA!
Do you realize why I say this?
This is because, in most rural areas, there is no single formal doctor! (~25% posts are vacant)
As I explained about the irreplaceable role of QUACKS in rural areas in my article!
The link for which is attached 👉 QUACKS
The blame falls entirely on the INDIAN MEDICAL SYSTEM!
According to W.H.O.,
- 1 doctor / 1000 people is a standard favorable for any country.
- But in India, the ratio is 1 doctor for every 1500 people!
This gap is very huge provided that India has lot of medical schools than any other nation!
WHY IS THIS SHORTAGE OF DOCTORS?
1. Few Graduating students!
- The number of students graduating is just 100 to 150 students/ college/ year!
- For instance, In AIIMS entrance examination, ~70,000 to 80,000 students compete, of which only ~7,500 students get selected! (JUST 10% GET SELECTED)
- The remaining 90% of the students either wait for a year to give another shot or end up in other irrelevant courses against their passion!
2. Most students are poorly trained!
- Most private colleges in India are run by politicians & businessmen who have no experience to run medical educational institutions!
- The sole motive for them is to earn money & pass government inspections!
Most medical colleges have no hospital facilities, and so the students do not learn anything practically as sufficient patients would mean sufficient practice!
I would recollect a story at this point of time!
A private facility named, ADESH HOSPITAL was scheduled for Government inspection!
This hospital was vacant, as it was positioned in RURAL AREA & was EXPENSIVE!
Could you guess what the hospital authorities did for the Inspection?
They contacted the SARPANCH of the nearby village and asked him to send VILLAGERS TO ACT AS PATIENTS for money!
This gives a ‘DEJAVU’ moment of ‘Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.,/ Vasool Raja M.B.B.S., movie!!😑
Can you predict the strategy of these private facilities?
They build huge hospitals in rural areas where the cost of the land is comparatively low than cities.
The villagers on the other hand, avoid even government facilities considering transport, consultation charges!
This is the reason why, during inspections, private facilities run FREE MEDICAL CHECKUPS for villagers where they recruit not only patients but ALSO DOCTORS for a period of ~3 days with a hefty payment!!
3. Those trained well refuse to work in rural areas!
According to Dr. Deepthi Agarwal, Gold Medalist of 2017 Batch from AIIMS,
In rural areas, the work at Primary Health Centre (PHC) is provided with minimal facilities & no handsome payments!
Then what will be the reason for them to work there?
Now, can you relate why ‘QUACKS’ are in abundance in villages & even in some urban areas in disguise?
As fake doctors do exist so close to us, identifying the qualified ones would be an Himalayan task for us as patients!

Howdy readers!!! With strong belief in the power of words, I look forward to help you choose the correct lens to perceive world issues and embrace positivity about the future!
Good
Thank you!
Your views are acceptable but at the same time I think it will take decades to achieve this due to population density.
In other words, the growth rate of population is actually on a declining trend in India. This will result in increasing number of aging population to cater for the Government. Efficient planning of policies & implementation could be a solution in near future.
