‘With great power, comes great responsibilities!’
India’s hard power based on SELF-RELIANCE & NUCLEAR CAPABILITY is getting its full shape!
Case in point -> Success of Agni-P test fire by DRDO from Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast!
This was the 3rd consecutive test that came out to be highly ACCURATE & RELIABLE!!
WHAT IS AGNI-P?
To understand this, it is important to follow the series of developments!
- IGMDP (Integrated Guided Missile Development Program) – brainchild of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam to make India self sufficient in Missile technology!
- Missiles developed under this program –
- Prithvi
- Agni
- Trishul
- Akash
- Nag
- Each of these missiles has it own purpose. But for today’s discussion, We shall limit this to Agni series of missiles!
AGNI SERIES OF MISSILES:
Intermediate range surface to surface ballistic missile!
This may seem to be like a rocket science material to understand. But, Let me break down this for you!
Intermediate range / surface to surface / ballistic missile
- Range -> 3000 km to 5500 km
- Surface to surface -> The Missile originates from land surface, follows a curved path before hitting the target on the surface.
- Ballistic missile -> Uses projectile motion to hit the target. Short range missiles stay within the Earth’s atmosphere, whereas Intercontinental missiles are launched to sub-orbital region, it re-enters Earth’s atmosphere thereby reaching surface!
ABOUT AGNI-P: (under IGMDP)
- INDIGENOUS New generation Advanced variant of Agni missiles
- NUCLEAR CAPABLE
- Strike range – 1000 to 2000 km; Smallest & Lightest.
- 2 stage solid canistered missile (Missiles are placed inside a container for mobility- road/rail)
- 50% less weight than Agni-3 missile
- It has replaced Prithvi, Agni-2, Agni-3 for their obsolete technology.
- New guidance and propulsion system.
SIGNIFICANCE:
- NUCLEAR TRIAD:
- Combination of
- Land launched nuclear missile
- Nuclear missile armed submarines – K-4
- Strategic aircraft – Brahmos, Rafale
- In the past few years, India has been completing its NUCLEAR TRIAD!
- DETERRANCE:
- With ‘NO FIRST USE’ policy, there is a dire need for India to reserve the right of massive retaliation!
- In a situation where countries like China, are testing Hypersonic missiles, India cannot afford to be at back foot!
- In the era where Nuclear threats have become so common as in Russia’s war with Ukraine, We have to consider India’s vulnerability (China, Pakistan – both being nuclear powers) and be prepared for the worst!
Last but not the least, Most of our scientists go unrecognized for their work! They come to spotlight, only if there is a controversy!
The responsibility of their whereabouts has to be borne by the Government and the people!
Those creative & innovative minds were never short of opportunities abroad but they chose India to work with limited budgets, hectic schedules, simple lifestyle with minimal payouts!
The least we could do for them as fellow citizens is to appreciate their efforts! Spread their work! Shower them with love!
We go on to praise celebrities so much so that we tend to forget the real heroes at ground level, working round the clock to make OUR NATION, SELF-RELIANT!!!
As India progresses towards centenary year of Independence on 2047, Let us start celebrating our heroes with high regard for the prosperous nation that they had given us with gratefulness!!!
THINK ABOUT IT!
